Study finds 1-in-5 US women have been victims of rape

Nearly 2 million American women were raped in the year before taking the CDC’s 2011 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey.

A report recently published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which used data collected in 2011, found that more than 23 million women and about 2 million men in the United States had been raped at some point during their lives.

Perhaps more frightening are the statistics that “the majority of victims of all types of sexual violence knew their perpetrators” and that a whopping 43.9 percent of women have experienced some form of sexual violence other than rape.
