The following is an excerpt from an interview with Jewel Hall conducted by the ACLU of Michigan about the killing in 2012 of her son Milton by eight police officers.

Parts of her interview appear in the video which also includes footage of the police killing Milton. Today the ACLU of Michigan is presenting this video at a hearing about racial disparities in the U.S. criminal justice system before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, which is part of the Organization of American States.

Police officers in Sean Rigg death in custody case will not be prosecuted

Two police officers whose evidence on oath about the death of a man in police custody was contradicted by CCTV evidence will not face criminal charges, prosecutors have said.

The officers were investigated following the death of Sean Rigg, a musician who died in 2008 after being arrested and restrained by police in south London.

Rikers Island, an end to solitary confinement of children

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) has plans to minimize the solitary confinement of 16 and 17 year olds on Rikers Island. This according to an internal memo obtained by the New York Times, as reported in an article published earlier this week.

The revelation comes on the heels of a three-year investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the findings of which were released in an August report by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan.
