Prisoner died after warders failed to provide treatment for his cancer

A prison complaints body has slammed HMP Birmingham after a terminally-ill convict had to wait until he was ‘screaming in agony’ before being admitted to hospital. Carl Dent, of Woodcross, in Bilston, was riddled with cancer and died on July 5 last year, eight weeks after he was finally taken from the Winson Green prison to New Cross Hospital, in Wolverhampton.

The 36-year-old was serving an 11-year sentence for sex offences, including indecent assault and indecency with a child.

On Saturday 3 August, over 500 people gathered at the North London Community House in Tottenham to remember Joy Gardner, Mark Duggan, Roger Sylvester and Cynthia Jarrett, who all died locally at the hands of the police.

The event was held to mark the two years since the death of Mark Duggan and the twenty years that has passed since the death of Joy Gardner, who died during a brutal deportation attempt in 1993. The meeting was organised by the Mark Duggan Family Campaign and Joy Gardner Memorial Campaign and supported by the United Families and Friends Campaign, Tottenham Rights, The Monitoring Group, the Tottenham Defence Campaign and 4WardEver UK.

Simon Hall confesses to Albert murder 12 years on

A burglar who stabbed a 79-year-old woman to death has confessed to the crime after a decade claiming he was the victim of a miscarriage of justice. Simon Hall, 35, was jailed for life in 2003 for the attack on Joan Albert at her home in Capel St Mary, Suffolk.

His case was investigated by the BBC series Rough Justice in 2007 and his claims of innocence also won the backing of ex-Ipswich MP Chris Mole. Police said Hall had now admitted his guilt to prison authorities.
