Southfield attorney Geoffery Fieger, who is representing family members of a 7-year-old girl who was fatally shot by an officer during a week end raid, says he has video footage of the incident.

During an afternoon news conference, Fieger said the footage shot by the A and E crime reality show, “The First 48” shows at lease one shot was fired after police threw a stun grenade into the home.

Authorities have claimed the gun was fired by accident when police broke into the apartment early Sunday, striking the girl in the neck. The video is about 3 to 4 minutes in length. “As Mayor Bing indicated, the madness has got to stop,” Fieger said. “I agree. The madness also involves the police department not coming forward and being honest,” he said.

McKinnon asks new Government to halt his US extradition

Gary McKinnon’s legal team has appealed to the new coalition government to halt the self-confessed hacker’s extradition to the US. The Nasa hacker’s solicitor Karen Todner said in a Friday statement that she had asked the Conservative home secretary Theresa May to “intervene and prevent the extradition of Gary McKinnon to the USA”.

McKinnon, who suffers from Asperger syndrome, hacked into 97 US military systems between 2001 and 2002 in what he claims was a search for evidence of extraterrestrial life. According to the US authorities, he caused $700,000 £485,000 damage and should stand trial in that country. If convicted in the US, he could be sentenced to 70 years in a maximum security federal prison.

Police shot girl, 7, during TV show filming

An attorney representing the family of a seven-year-old girl who was shot to death during a raid in Detroit said the police operation was flawed and was influenced by TV production concerns.

Aiyana Jones was shot and killed as she slept on a living room sofa after an officer’s gun went off as police searched the house for a suspect.

Attorney Karri Mitchell told The Detroit News that the police “were excited; they were on TV”. “They didn’t have to throw a grenade through the front window when they knew there were children in there,” the attorney said.
