LAPD release video from fatal shooting of 14-year-old in Burlington dressing room

The Los Angeles Police Department have released store and body camera footage that showed the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old girl who was struck by a stray bullet while in a Burlington store dressing room.

Officials said that 14-year-old Valentina Orellana-Peralta was killed by a bullet that skipped off the floor and pierced the wall when officers shot at an armed suspect in the North Hollywood store on 23 Dec 2021.

Daniel Elena-Lopez, 24, attacked several shoppers with a heavy-duty cable lock and was wielding it when police arrived.

In the graphic, 35-minute LAPD video, blood-curdling screams could be heard from inside the dressing room area where Valentina and her mother were hiding – right behind a wall where officers fatally shot Elena-Lope.

Celia Stubbs, partner of Blair Peach, to appear at Undercover Inquiry

Celia Stubbs, whose partner Blair Peach was killed by police 42 years ago, hopes her appearance at the Undercover Policing Inquiry will help her discover why she was spied on for decades.

Stubbs, 81, and still active politically by supporting refugees and asylum seekers, is among thousands of political activists that members of the London Metropolitan Police’s Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) highlighted for attention from 1968 onwards. Targets included women, with whom officers sometimes had relationships and children.

Update on investigation into Sean Fitzgerald’s death two years on

The investigation in to the shooting of Sean Fitzgerald by police in Coventry is still ongoing – two years after his death. Mr Fitzgerald suffered a a single gunshot wound to the chest as officers carried out a raid at an address on Burnaby Road, in Holbrooks, on January 4, 2019.

The warrant was executed by the West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit and West Midlands Police, in support of a Warwickshire Police investigation.

During the incident, the 31-year-old was shot by armed police. An investigation was launched by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which routinely investigates incidents which result in death following police contact.
