Mumia Abu-Jamal remembers South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who died on Sunday at the age of 90. Tutu was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for fighting to end apartheid in South Africa. In 2007, Tutu visited Mumia when he was still on death row.
“His spirit reflected a giant,” says Abu-Jamal. “He struggled for change with his prophetic voice, his sweet humor, his deep love and his boundless sense of compassion.”

A third probe into the death of former Bolton man Anthony Grainger has cleared police over the use of a CS gas canister. Several matters were referred by GMP to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) after the public inquiry into Grainger’s 2012 shooting.
Two officers were quizzed over the use of an unauthorised CS gas canisters during a police operation in Culcheth that night. The canisters were used to deliver CS gas into vehicles, Before then live rounds had been deployed.
An IOPC inquiry has now ruled the pair “had not acted in bad faith” over the canisters. [Although] it was not authorised but paperwork had been filed over their usage.

The Home Office is covering up its own research into why refugees and asylum seekers travel to the UK because ministers “know their arguments don’t stand up,” charities claim.
Officials are refusing to release its evidence on whether so-called “pull factors” play a part in asylum seekers making journeys to the UK.
On Thursday deputy prime minister Dominic Raab talked about “reducing the pull factor” in an attempt to justify the government’s controversial plans for asylum processing centres in Albania.
