Man shot six times by police WAS ‘unlawfully killed’

An inquiry into the death of a man shot six times by police has concluded that he was unlawfully killed. Azelle Rodney, 24, died after an officer opened fire on a car he was travelling in eight years ago. The car was under surveillance for several hours before unmarked officers stopped it in Edgware, North London, in 2005. Rodney was a passenger in the back seat of the car.

The marksman, known only as E7, told the inquiry he feared the occupants were armed with a sub-machine gun capable of firing more than 1,000 rounds per minute. It was believed the group were on their way to rob a Colombian drugs gang.

Jimmy Mubenga was unlawfully killed, inquest jury finds

An Angolan man who died after being restrained by three G4S guards as he was being deported from the UK was unlawfully killed, a jury has found.

Jimmy Mubenga, 46, died on board a plane at Heathrow airport that was bound for Angola in October 2010. At the end of an eight-week inquest, a jury of seven men and three women recorded a majority verdict of nine to one of unlawful killing after four days of deliberations.

The Crown Prosecution Service said it would reconsider its original decision not to bring criminal charges in the wake of the verdict.

Birmingham dad died serving a nine-week sentence for theft

An investigation has been launched into the death of a father-of-three whose body was found in a cell at Birmingham Prison. Marlon McIntosh, from Quinton, was serving a nine-week sentence for theft when he was discovered dead on April 30.

The 28-year-old’s devastated relatives were told he was found hanged. An inquest has been opened and adjourned and security firm G4S, which runs the prison, said the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman was investigating.
