A transgender woman sent to a male prison was found dead in her cell after repeatedly warning that she would leave “in a box”, a jury has heard.

Vikki Thompson, 21, had been living as a female since she was 10. She died within a month of arriving at HMP Leeds in October 2015. She had changed her name when she was 17, but had never applied for a gender recognition certificate and had not had any gender reassignment surgery, the coroner Jonathan Leach told Wakefield coroner’s court on Tuesday.

Jailed LAPD cop’s appeal rejected for kicking handcuffed woman who died

A three-judge appeals court panel Monday affirmed the felony assault conviction of a veteran Los Angeles policewoman who kicked and shoved a handcuffed female arrestee [Alesia Thomas] who died shortly afterward.

Mary O’Callaghan, 51, was sentenced on July 23, 2015, to a maximum of three years behind bars, with 16 months to be served in county jail and the last 20 months suspended.

O’Callaghan received credit for roughly three months time served and was released from jail on Jan. 24, 2016, about six months after her sentencing hearing, according to information posted on the Sheriff’s Department’s website.

Cops used out of date profile of Anthony Grainger, inquiry hears

A police officer who built a profile of Anthony Grainger did not intend firearms officers to use it, a public inquiry has heard.

Anthony was shot dead by a firearms officer after police moved to arrest three men in a stolen Audi in Culceth, Cheshire, on 3 March 2012. It was part of “Operation Shire”, which Greater Manchester Police (GMP) had launched the previous year to investigate the group for suspected armed robberies.

DC Rachel Griffiths had produced a “pen profile”, an informal character description used by police, on Anthony that was used for Operation Shire.
