If you think about it, Israel’s calculated murder of peace activists on a mission to break the siege of Gaza makes perfect sense. A lot of observers were baffled that Netanyahu’s government inflated the importance of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla which was delivering vital humanitarian aid to the largest concentration camp in the world but had the secondary mission of publicizing the brutal and illegal siege of Gaza.

To casual observers, it seemed like Israel’s belligerent posture was amplifying the international media attention given to the flotilla. It seemed so counter-productive for the Israelis to hand the peace activists what amounted to a nuclear powered bull horn.

Video shows police fired into Detroit home

Southfield attorney Geoffery Fieger, who is representing family members of a 7-year-old girl who was fatally shot by an officer during a week end raid, says he has video footage of the incident.

During an afternoon news conference, Fieger said the footage shot by the A and E crime reality show, “The First 48” shows at lease one shot was fired after police threw a stun grenade into the home.

Authorities have claimed the gun was fired by accident when police broke into the apartment early Sunday, striking the girl in the neck. The video is about 3 to 4 minutes in length. “As Mayor Bing indicated, the madness has got to stop,” Fieger said. “I agree. The madness also involves the police department not coming forward and being honest,” he said.

Amnesty slams China for silence on execution toll

Amnesty International criticized China on Tuesday for failing to reveal the number of people it executed last year, which the rights group estimates is more than the rest of the world combined.

Iran had the second highest number of executions in 2009, Amnesty said in a new report, adding that about a third of the country’s 388 executions took place in eight weeks of turmoil following Iran’s disputed presidential election in June.

“The past year saw capital punishment applied extensively to send political messages, to silence opponents or to promote political agendas,” Amnesty interim secretary general Claudio Cordone said in a statement.
