Officials in Oklahoma and other states are scrambling to figure out a way to kill people. Concerned over a lack of access to lethal injection drugs, the Oklahoma legislature passed a bill in late April approving the use of the gas chamber for executions.

This comes on the heels of Utah’s move in March to bring back the firing squad as an alternative to lethal injection, an announcement that spurred another round of debate about executions. While the Denver Post editorial board wrote that the firing squad was “not a solution,” a Bloomberg editorial titled “Death by firing squad is more humane than lethal injection” circulated widely.

Britain’s first titan-sized prison gets green light

The contract to build Britain’s first titan prison holding more than 2,100 inmates has been signed just days before next Monday’s deadline, when parliament officially dissolves for the general election.

But Chris Grayling, the justice secretary, has failed to get approval in time for his other flagship prison project, a 320-place “secure college” or supersized youth jail costing £80m, which was to be the first of a network to replace the current system of youth offender institutions and secure training centres.

MI5, police and military intelligence’s use of informers has been transformed due to lessons learned from the Pat Finucane murder scandal, David Cameron has said.

The prime minister outlined to parliament how the government had responded to the findings of a damning report two years ago on the loyalist killing in 1989.
