15th Annual UFFC Demo October 2013

The 2013 annual demonstration took place on 26^th October in London and was attended by over 250 people. Those in attendance included relatives of Mark Duggan, Thomas Orchard, Sean Rigg, Roger Sylvester, Anthony Grainger, Joy Gardner, Olaseni Lewis and many more.

The United Families and Friends Campaign delivered their annual letter to Downing Street. This annual letter, delivered to successive heads of government since UFFC’s inception in the late 1990’s, demands justice for those who have died in state custody in suspicious and controversial circumstances.

George Zimmerman acquitted in Trayvon Martin case

George Zimmerman walked free from a Florida courtroom late on Saturday after a jury acquitted the neighbourhood watch leader of murdering an unarmed black teenager, Trayvon Martin, in a case that played into the national debates about race, civil rights and the proliferation of guns in US society.

Zimmerman, 29, smiled briefly and shook the hands of his lawyers Mark O’Mara and Don West after the verdict from the jury of six women was read.

Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, the parents of the 17-year-old shot dead by Zimmerman on the night of 26 February last year, were not in court to hear the decision.

Neighbours baffled by fatal shooting of Bradford dad

The fatal shooting of a Bradford dad has baffled and confused folk who knew him only as a good neighbour.

Colin Berry, father of three young children, died after unarmed police arrived at his Clayton home to carry out a search for drugs on Thursday lunchtime. It is thought there was a struggle, during which a firearm went off and killed Mr Berry.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission yesterday launched an investigation into the early shooting at the detached house in Buckingham Crescent which fatally wounded 49-year-old Mr Berry.
