Man shot and tasered by officers "not guilty" of GBH

A jury has said a man, who was shot five times and tasered by the police, is not guilty of attacking officers because he was mentally ill at the time.

George Asare, from Forest Hill, south-east London, was found not guilty of attempted Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) with intent and affray earlier today (2 November 2012).

Asare was found not guilty by reason of insanity of affray, three counts of attempting to wound, two counts of damaging property and having a blade, the police also confirmed to the Voice. The court said he is to remain in hospital till he is deemed fit.

Family’s relief after truth about custody death emerges

The family of a grandfather who died in police custody today spoke of their relief at the truth finally emerging at an inquest into his death – that he had died while being transported in a police van.

Relatives spoke after members of a jury said they believed Lenny McCourt, who had been pepper sprayed during his arrest, died in transit on the short journey between his home in Ash Crescent, in Seaham and Peterlee Police Station, County Durham.

Too many questions in handcuff suicide, say attorney

The family of a man shot while handcuffed behind his back continues to refute police claims that he committed suicide.

As the Jonesboro Police Department in Arkansas released more information, more questions arose about who shot 21-year-old Chavis Carter, said his family and friends. Unfortunately, all of the facts may remain a mystery until a civil or criminal trial, family attorney Benjamin Irwin said.

Police released a dash cam video, of what they called a reenactment of how the alleged suicide could have occurred, and said they interviewed Mr. Carter’s girlfriend. According to police, the girlfriend said the deceased called her saying he had a gun and was afraid.
